Ibiza is the most western Baleari Island loctaed at 38 50’ 40’ and the 39 06’22’ parallel is between the meridian 117’27’ and 137’48’ and 90 km from the Spanish eastern coast in the western part of the Mediterranean. This is a small island of just about 572 squared km with a thousand year past but that has been able to adapt it’s marine life to the actual times where the turist is the main source of income to the island. It’s small extension of only 41 km in length and 20 in width makes it simple for the tourist to penetrate however the island also has difficult hidden places to discover. The populatiopn is about 100.000 people but the number greatly increases in the summer thanks to tourism and to the season workers. Except for the northern border known as Es Amunts, the main part is made up of small creeks and projections with more than 56 beaches. Exceptions to this type of landscape just mentioned is: mount Atalaya which is the highest mount in Ibiza measuring 475 meters and the only river in the Balearic Islands. Ibiza, together with elvissa, yebisah, ebusus and ibosim, although having 3000 years of history, have preserved their splendor, that, makes them a world estate from 1999. Amongst these, the ones that best characterise Ibiza are the Phoenician cities, the fantastic ocean and the best preserved Renaissance fortification of all of Europe. Aside from the above reasons, there are other reasons worth seeeing this greta island : it’s 56 marvelous beaches with crystal clear water and picturestic creeks, the best Meditterranean and international cuisine and the best hotels amongst all of the including the agrotourism and the spas. This is surely a peaceful sland, beautiful, with many colours and rhythm that have much to offer in regards to history and culture but obviously is appreciated for the sun and the ocean that makes relaxing more enjoyable. The entire island, that begins from the coast to the internal part offers all the possible types of contrasting landscapes that contribute in creating an adventurous spirit combined to the culture and only itself, to the traditions, to nature and to art. This characteristic landscaping makes Ibiza it even more worth seeing in the springtime when the almond trees are blossoming or in the fall when the sky is filled with a pictureistic light and life picks up a rhythm. Ibiza is changing, it is no longer an island where people go for holidays but it is a Mediterranean oasis which attracting a good quality of tourism. The typiclal Ibiza atmosphere can make enjoyed all year round, in fact, the important airlines have daily flights coming and goiing to and from Ibiza, even in the winter. Today Ibiza has much to offer to everybody. As always the best parties in the world take place in the most beautiful beaches or in the best restaurants. Ibiza offers the highest quality of living. The health service is guaranteed by a good medical equipe. Well, the main enchanment of this island is the quantity of different possibilites offered to the tourist. If you are looking for nature, sun, beaches, relax and natural landscapes you will not have any problems finding them here.   CLIMATE Thanks to the southern location and the Saharan, Ibiza is characterized by a hot and dry climate. The average annual maximum temperature is 21.2 degrees and the minimum is 13.9 degrees. These great temperatures make up for one of the world’s most desired places. The average hours of yearly sunlight are 2.883,1.   Below you will find the information pertaining to the weather conditions and some suggestions:   SUMMER MAY-OCTOBER The summer is dry , due to the low rainfall, and very hot. The summer begins in May and the temperature rises up to 30 degrees in August and September. The temperatuire of the water is from 25 to 27 degrees. How to dress May – June and September the evening mmay call for a sweater or a light jacket above all, if it’s windy July and August is the hottest period and all you need is t-shirts, short-sleeved shirts and light cotton shorts In October you need a sweater or a jacket because if it rains or if it’s windy the temperature candrop to 17 degrees.   WINTER FROM NOVEMBER TO APRIL During the winter months, from November to April, the temperature is 15 degrees but when the sun is shining it can get up to 25 degrees. Ibiza is not a winter get-a-away destination even though some people suntan ans even bathe when there are sunny days. If you are interested in visiting Ibiza in the winter you must remember to bring warm clothes because not all of the places have heating due to the fact that it is colder outside than inside. On the other hand, the tourists have the entire island to themselves.   WHAT TO SEE THE TOWN OF IBIZA Apart from having many night life attractions this city has many beautiful beaches. The most important ones are : in the south part, Playa d’En Bossa, with many small islands called Malvines. In the northern part, Cala Talamanca is a very beautiful beach, Cala Lionga and many others, makes you feel like you are in paradise, all just a few steps away. SANTA EULALIA This is the next stop if we continue to travel through the island in the northern direction. This picturesque fishermen city has become one of the most mentioned attractions mentioned in all of the touristic catalogues of the island, thanks to the great structures that are offered to the tourist, and for being in a beautiful place such as Playa de Santa Eulalia, Cala Blanca o Es Canar. These beaches are crowded or deserted depending on what period of the year you visit them. This is why it is best to ask one of the many the restaurants or hotels where it is best to go, because the people of Ibiza are very friendly and will help you make the best decision. If you decide to see SAN CARLOS it will surely be an unforgetable experience. It is full of restaurants, bars and places that offer delicious typical dishes. In the north part you will see SAN JUAN, apart from it’s beautiful beaches, amongst which you will find Cala San Vincent, Cala Portinai and Cala Xarraca, is well known form it’s historic relic : Cuieram Cave that has a temple dedicated to the Goddess Tanit. SAN MIQUEL offers a prescious scenario and a great view at only 3km. Crossing the splendid mediterranean enchanting cities you get to SAN ANTONIO ABAD or SANT ANTONIO DE PORTNANI, known for it’s night life, it’s charming beaches and city. Having said this we can name off many cities such as, Cala Graciò o Cala Blanch, or the charming beach in front of the Margalida island, which is located further north. However, the entire coast is captivating. SAN JOSÈ is proud to have one of the most beautiful churches in Ibiza. It also has the most beautiful beaches such as Cala D’Or, Cala Bassa, Cala Tarida o Es Vedrà. Other attractions are the beaches south of the church. Some are not very well known like the Ses Fonteles Cave with antique mural paintings.
DOCUMENTS From January 1st 2000, citizens from the Schengen area (that is, citizens from the United States that are part of the European Union) and also Italian citizens do not have go through systematic controls when entering in Spain. Since individual controls are always possible, it is best to bring your passport or identity card with you; you may stay in Spain for a maximun period of three months with the mentioned documents. For minors that do not have these documents, they must provide a birth certificate with a photo and get it certified by the police headquarters. VACCINATIONS There is no sanitary risk; however, before leaving Italy, if you not have a health card, it is best that you get a provisional one for the time being from ASL so that you may have the health coverage in Spain. Turists offices, police and hotels are generally able to provide you with the doctor’s address or indicate the nearest hospital to you. JET LAG There is no time difference in Spain. It is the same time as in Italy in the summer and in the winter. LANGUAGE The offical language is Spanish or Castilian. English is somewhat spoken but it is not widen spoken. PURCHASES In Ibiza the great part of the clothing and accessory shops are concentrated in the Porto and Vara de Rey area. This is good place where you can buy music or a souvenir in the various stands in the streets that run parallel to the harbour. You will be glad to discover that most of ther shops are open until very late in the evening during high season, including the shops that are in the historic center of Dalt Vila ( leather goods, typical iIbiza style fashion pieces, costume jewellery …). Another possibility is the weekly markets: on Wednesdays during high season located at Es Canar ( close to Santa Eularia), not to miss this appointment where you can appreciate the hippy era of Ibiza: Thursdays at San Miguel: Fridays on Den Bossa beach: Saturdays throughout the entire year at Las Dalias, located just before arriving to Sant Carles, and near San Jordi’s racetrack ( actually it is more of a flea market than a typical market): Sundays at Sa Casilla. And do not miss the small marlket of Ibiza’s harbour, which only takes place in high season and in the evenings. CURRENCY The Euro is the currency used in Spain. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere; you may also withdraw money from the cash machines with your credit cards 24 hours a day everyday. The banks are open from Mondays to Fridays from 9-14, in the summer the banks are also open on Saturdays from 9-13. • ELECTRICITY The electricity is 220 volts and in some places can still find 125 V or 110 V; the sockets consist of two round plugs. • TELEPHONE CONVERSATIONS To make a telephone from Italy from Spain you must dial 0034 plus the area code of the place you are calling and the desired number. To call Italy from Spain you must dail 0039 plus the telephone number desired; it is also possible to make a collect call by dialling 900990391. Both local and international calls can be made from the blue telephones that accept both coins and telephone cards; obviously calls can also be made from the hotel but it is more expensive. GSM phones may be used.
